The Beach Huts

 

 THE BEACH HUTS

The gaily painted beach huts were a regular feature of summer holidays in North Berwick. The huts would be dismantled and stored at the end of every season. Several local firms produced them and the one we have in the museum is one of the original huts made by William Auld & Son in the early 1900s.

Stewart Auld is William Auld’s great grandson and he generously donated his beach hut to the museum in 2013.

We asked Stewart about his memories of the North Berwick Beach Huts for our Year of Stories:
